Detailed Description about the Protection of Participants

Safe and Drug-Free Schools coordinators will help us identify teachers using research-based drug prevention programs. Teachers will be informed, via email, of the nature of the project and invited to participate. Teachers will be encouraged to contact Dr. Dusenbury with any questions regarding participation. Prior to registering in the course, they will be asked to complete a teacher consent form and return it to Dr. Dusenbury. Click to view a copy of the Teacher Consent form.

Students will be provided information about the survey prior to its completion. They will have the option of not completing the survey should they not wish to do so. Because students’ surveys will be entirely anonymous and because there are no questions about sensitive or illegal behaviors, parental informed consent is not required. However, schools may inform parents and provide them with an opportunity to withdraw their student. Click to view a copy of the Student Information and Opt-out Sheet.

All teacher data will be kept confidential. Data from students will be anonymous. Data will be accessible only by project staff at Tanglewood Research. All data collected will be held on our secure web servers. These data are protected through firewalls and secure socket layers. They are physically protected by locked doors to which only two individuals – Dr. Hansen (the president of Tanglewood Research) and one information technology specialist (an employee of Tanglewood Research) – have access. It will be our pledge to teachers to guarantee the confidentiality of their data.
