Prevention ABCs Genie
Supporting High Quality Implementation of Prevention Programs

Project Overview

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to develop an online tool that uses email and video messages to promote high quality implementation of school-based prevention programs. A previous research project, using a program called Life Skills Training (LST), demonstrated the feasibility of creating an online application for increasing the quality of school-based prevention programs. During the current project this service is being expanded to include ongoing support and training for all school-based middle school drug prevention programs on the SAMHSA model program list (NREPP).

Goal: The goal of the field trial is to demonstrate that the streaming video and email message delivery system, and the brief messages delivered through Prevention ABCs Genie (pertaining to upcoming sessions of middle school programs on the NREPP list) have the ability to increase the quality with which middle school drug prevention programs are delivered.

The Service: The Prevention ABCs Genie will be an online service that will provide teachers the ability to get teaching tips that will help them gain better understanding of the concepts and methods that evidence-based prevention programs use to accomplish their objectives. The service will include a catalog of over 100 brief messages that cover all aspects of prevention program delivery. Each includes a brief text and a brief video message. Registered users will be able to receive messages through scheduled emails and by searching online.
