Data to Be Collected
Four types of data will be collected.
Teacher Prevention Knowledge and Practice Survey: Based on the content of the messages, we will develop a
Knowledge and Practice of Prevention Survey. The survey will include two parts, one to assess general prevention
knowledge, the other to assess skill and performance. We will administer surveys at the beginning and end of each
teaching cycle.
Post-training Teacher Satisfaction Survey: At the end of each teaching cycle, teachers will be asked to report about the degree to which they used the
messages from Prevention ABCs Genie and to rate how helpful the messages were. They will provide feedback on satisfaction with messages, the perceived value of
messages, and challenges with using the messages. The survey will include open-ended questions asking about the benefits and challenges of the training they received.
They will be asked to give comments about how messages and the message delivery system could be improved.
Fidelity: Teachers will be asked to complete self-report measures about various aspects of the fidelity of
program delivery (how closely the program was adhered to).
NREPP
programs are typically organized by sessions with
activities embedded within each session. Teachers will be required to complete a fidelity assessment form for each
class session they teach. Forms will be downloaded from a website managed by Tanglewood Research, Inc. The form
asks which activities were taught, how well activity objectives were achieved, the number of students that
participated, the degree of student engagement, questions about overall quality of program delivery, and a
description of adaptations teachers made to the program as they taught.
Student Data: Teachers will be responsible for administering the student surveys. The
student surveys will not address substance use or attitudes about use. The
surveys will include questions about students' engagement during classroom
activities. Tanglewood Research will provide the surveys and instructions
for implementing them.
